About Me

About

Rev. Joshua S. Lewis, M.Div., is a pastor, historical theologian, and writer committed to engaging the life of the mind and the Spirit in service of the church. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Lindenwood University and a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Historical Theology at Regent University.

An ordained Pentecostal minister, Lewis serves as pastor of Jerusalem Christian Church, a historic rural congregation in Virginia. His pastoral ministry emphasizes careful biblical interpretation, spiritual formation, and congregational health, particularly within historic and rural church contexts. His work resists novelty-driven approaches in favor of theological depth, pastoral sustainability, and faithfulness over time.

Lewis is regularly invited to speak and teach on theology, culture, and church history, and has led seminars at Evangel University and Virginia Commonwealth University. His interdisciplinary interests include literature and theology, with a particular focus on Edgar Allan Poe. He is a frequent presenter at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum, where he lectures on topics such as “Poe as Theologian” and “Biblical and Theological Themes in ‘The Raven,’” exploring how theological imagination shapes American literary expression.

As a writer and scholar, Lewis has published academic work and served on the research and writing team for Is Christianity the White Man’s Religion? (Wipf and Stock). His work consistently seeks to build bridges—between academic theology and the church, between tradition and contemporary culture, and across denominational and intellectual boundaries.

Lewis lives in Virginia with his wife, Candace, and their five children.
